The Lyme Disease Association, Inc. has compiled a searchable database of healthcare providers in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands who “to the best of the LDA’s knowledge” are Lyme literate.
Specifically, these professionals are treating chronic Lyme disease and other tick borne diseases and “follow more flexible treatment approaches than those advocated by the Infectious Diseases Society of America.” (The LDA does not warrant or endorse physicians in the list.)
Also included in the database is contact information for human sample analysis labs and tick testing labs.
If you wish to use the LDA’s Automated Doctor Referral System http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org/referral you will need to register by providing your e-mail address & a password. Once registered you may conduct 3 searches per 30-day period.
Once you enter your state, city, and zip code, you’ll be able to refine your search by indicating if you want to locate:
1. A Primary Care (PC) doctor treating Lyme & other tick borne diseases.
2. A search limited to ILADS members (ILADS is the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society – a multidisciplinary worldwide medical society for Lyme specialists).
3. A specialist familiar with Lyme & other tick borne diseases – such as a cardiologist, neurologist, or rheumatologist.
4. A physician specialized in treating children with Lyme & other tick borne diseases.
5. And/or a human sample lab or tick-testing lab.
The LDA notes: “At this time, because of a limited number of physicians treating chronic Lyme disease nationwide, some states and even regions may not have a treating physician who follows more flexible treating approaches than those advocated by the Infectious Diseases Society of America. You will be sent to the closest ones based on the zip code you enter or state you select, although the provider may not be physically close to you. That situation is beyond the LDA's control. We will update the list as we receive additional treating doctors.”
