Weight Watchers Diet

The Weight Watchers diet uses the “Winning Points Plan” to help members manage the foods they eat, monitor physical activity and gain emotional support as they proceed down the path to weight loss. It is a simple program that assigns a point value to foods based on the amount of calories, fat and fiber found in each item. Each dieter is allotted 18 to 35 points per day depending upon the person’s weight when entering the program. If the dieter stays within their point range by eating healthy foods and exercising they will begin to lose weight.

While using the Weight Watchers points plan, dieters can eat whatever they want including take out and sweets, as long as they stick within their daily point limit. Some examples of food and their corresponding point value include:

One scoop ice cream: 4 points
One bottle beer: 3 points
One slice pizza: 9 points
One cup grapes: 1 point

To stay within the points range, dieters are inclined to choose healthier foods with low point values. Dieters are given a food journal to record the foods they’ve eaten and the number of points in each meal, as well as a food guide that instructs dieters on how the day’s points should be distributed. The program offers low point meal plans and recipes to help guide the dieter to successful weight loss. As the dieter loses weight, the number of points allowed per day is reduced.

Weight Watchers also encourages dieters to join sponsored support groups. By joining a support group dieters are able to meet with each other and exchange recipe ideas, provide support and advice, and learn how to build a complete healthy lifestyle.

The standard fee for a one month membership in the online Weight Watchers plan is $44.90, with an additional $14.95 for every following month. Weekly meetings range from $9.95 to $13.00 per session. Membership includes meal plans, point calculators, recipes, food journals and other services to help guide weight loss.
